What the three-legged table!

Waking up in bed next to a stranger is bad. Waking up in bed next to Cooper Mallory is catastrophic. Yet here we are. Several canceled flights and one wrong bedroom will throw even the best-laid plans out the window.

Mallory, as I’ve come to call him, might seem like a great guy—with his double-dimpled, all-American, good-guy charm—but I’ve known a secret about him for the last eighteen months. It’s the reason I keep my distance, and my walls up when he’s around. I’ve been burned by men like him before, and I have no interest in it happening again.

Unfortunately, Mallory is the kind of man that my traitorous feelings refuse to be reasonable about.

But I think it’s going to be fine.
Everything is fine.

I have exactly zero idea why any of this is happening.

I’ve spent the last eighteen months trying everything I can think of to get on Stephanie’s good side, and no matter what I do, she keeps me at arm’s length. I’ve never wanted to get something right more in my life, and I’ve never been more in the dark.

She’s funny, fierce, and the most magnetic person I’ve ever met, but she treats me like a mildly aggressive disease. I cannot for the life of me figure out what I did wrong.

The worst part? Even after months of being her least-favorite person in any given room, I’m still all in.
